Awakening the Joy Within

Long before I ever picked up a paintbrush at the age of 45, I would lie awake at night envisioning compositions of flowers to plant in the garden. With the blink of an eye, I could rearrange them-some for bright, eye-catching contrast, others for feathery texture or quiet subtlety. In my mind, they were as real as the dirt in the garden beds waiting for their arrival.

Recently, as I hiked the hills, the newly blooming mule's ear and lupine overwhelmed my heart with joy. Another composition began to form-this time not with soil and seedlings, but with thick, buttery oil paints on canvas. I wanted a loud expression, like the clash of cymbals, to herald the arrival of Spring-a season when new hope is born. This painting is my Ode to Spring. I hope it brings you the same joy I feel as I fling paint on the canvas and try to capture the emotion that floods in with the new season.
